Bryan Beach State Recreation Area
Bryan Beach State Recreation Area sits just 3 miles from the resort — one of the closest undeveloped Gulf beaches in Brazoria County. The beach is wide, uncrowded, and open year-round for swimming, surf fishing, shelling, and beachcombing. Anglers target redfish, speckled trout, and flounder along the surf line, especially during the fall run (September–November). There are no lifeguards on duty, so swimming is at your own risk — the best conditions are typically May through September when Gulf swells are calm. Bring sunscreen, a beach umbrella, and a cooler; there are no concession stands on-site. Parking is free and the access road is paved. Dogs are welcome on a leash. Peak times are weekend mornings from Memorial Day through Labor Day — arrive before 9 AM to claim a good spot near the water.
Surfside Beach, Texas
Surfside Beach is a laid-back Gulf Coast town just 5 miles from the resort, offering 21 miles of sandy shoreline, a fishing pier, and a relaxed beach-town atmosphere. The beach is driveable — you can park your truck right on the sand along most of the shoreline. Fishing from the Surfside Jetty is excellent for sheepshead, flounder, and redfish year-round. The town has a handful of seafood restaurants, bait shops, and beach boutiques along Bluewater Highway. Surfside is also a popular birding spot during spring and fall migration — the jetty area and beach wrack line attract shorebirds, terns, and occasional rarities. Peak season runs April through October; summer weekends get busy by mid-morning. For the best experience, visit on a weekday or arrive before 9 AM on weekends. The beach is free to access and dogs are allowed on a leash.
Oyster Creek & Lake Jackson
Oyster Creek is the small community where the resort is located — quiet, safe, and convenient to everything in Brazoria County. Lake Jackson, just 10 minutes north, is the main commercial hub with H-E-B, Walmart, Home Depot, and a full range of restaurants and services. The Brazoria County Fair (held each October in Angleton) is one of the largest county fairs in Texas, featuring livestock shows, carnival rides, live music, and local food vendors. Rayzur's Annual Crawfish Cook-Off draws big crowds each spring. The Brazoria National Wildlife Refuge, 20 minutes away, offers exceptional birding and wildlife viewing — alligators, roseate spoonbills, and migratory waterfowl are commonly seen from the auto tour route.
Galveston Island
Galveston Island is approximately 50 miles northeast of the resort — about a 55-minute drive via TX-332 E and I-45 S. It's one of the most popular day-trip destinations on the Texas Gulf Coast, offering the historic Strand District (Victorian architecture, galleries, and restaurants), Moody Gardens (aquarium, rainforest pyramid, and IMAX), Schlitterbahn Waterpark, and miles of Gulf beach along Seawall Boulevard. The Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier has rides, games, and dining right over the water. For a quieter beach experience, head to the west end of the island past 61st Street where the crowds thin out. Parking on the Seawall is metered; free parking is available at the west end beach accesses. The ferry to Bolivar Peninsula is free and a fun excursion in itself.
Fishing Near Oyster Creek, TX
The Oyster Creek and Freeport area is one of the premier inshore fishing destinations on the Texas Gulf Coast. The Intracoastal Waterway runs just minutes from the resort and holds redfish, speckled trout, flounder, and black drum year-round. The best inshore action is typically September through November when the fall run pushes large redfish into the shallows.
Bryan Beach and the Freeport Jetties are top surf-fishing spots — the jetties are especially productive for sheepshead, snapper, and flounder. Several boat launches are within a 10-minute drive of the resort, including the Freeport Harbor boat ramp and the Bryan Beach access road. Offshore fishing charters depart from Freeport Marina targeting red snapper, king mackerel, and mahi-mahi in season (May–October).
No fishing license is required on the resort's own creek frontage for registered guests. A Texas fishing license is required for all other public waters — available online at tpwd.texas.gov or at any local bait shop. The nearest bait and tackle shops are in Freeport and Lake Jackson, both under 10 minutes away.

The Quintana Neotropical Bird Sanctuary in Quintana (10 miles) is a small but exceptional migrant trap during spring and fall — birders travel from across the country to visit during peak migration in April and October.

Houston is approximately 60 miles north of the resort — about a 60–75 minute drive via Hwy 288 North. The city offers world-class attractions including Space Center Houston (NASA's visitor center), the Houston Zoo, the Museum of Natural Science, and the Museum of Fine Arts. The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo (February–March) is the largest rodeo in the world and draws over 2 million visitors annually.
